Wrocław University of Technology is an autonomous technical university and a university research institution. Its mission is to form creative, critical and tolerant personalities of students and postgraduates, and chart directions of development of science and techniques. The University, serving society, realizes its mission through: inventions and innovations, the highest standards in scientific investigations, passing on knowledge, high quality education and liberty of criticism with respect for the truth. Wrocław University of Technology as an academic community is open to all, treasures university values and traditions, universal co-operation with other universities and seeks a prominent place in the circle of universities in Europe and in the world.

Today's Wrocław University of Technology is the heir to the material property of the German Königliche Technische Hochschule Breslau and the intellectual and scientific property of Lviv University of Technology. The University, under the name Wrocław University of Technology, has been functioning since 1945. Its creators and organizers were Lviv and Warsaw scholars. Since the beginning of its activity it has constituted an important centre of technical education. Today, it is one of the largest and best technology universities in the country - in 12 departments, at the Department of Fundamental Studies and in 4 Distant Learning Centres (Bielawa, Jelenia Góra, Legnica, Wałbrzych), more than 32,000 students study under the supervision of 2,000 academic teachers.

European level teaching is valued not only in the country, but also abroad. The University of Technology makes it possible for students to study both according to standard programmes and to choose individual courses of education. Students can create their specialties themselves. Intense contacts unite the University with many teaching-research posts in the whole world - from Europe to America. Thanks to the signed partnership contracts, students and scientists of Wrocław University of Technology have the possibility to study abroad and participate in joint research projects. The University takes part in the realization of the following research programmes: LLP-Erasmus, Erasmus-Mundus, VII Program Ramowy, Leonardo da Vinci. Many organizations and student associations are active at the University where students have the possibility to develop their scientific and creative passions. The profile of this activity is very diverse and depends entirely on students' imagination. The global scale level of scientific investigations conducted by employees of the University and fully equipped laboratories bear fruit in the form of co-operation with national and foreign firms. Research projects are conducted as part of the contracts. Students have the possibility to do work experience, have training or to realize the subject of their diploma paper in departments of reputed firms all over the world.
